'67 Duetto Mechanical Restoration

The drive train was original and intact. The block matches the chassis per the FUSI book. The crank was turned and hardened .10 over. It could have gone at .00 but it was advantageous to drop it .1 to get it hardened and a good polish. All the main caps are the original matched set. Likewise with the upper end, this too appears to have never been off the car. The cam caps all are a matched set. The twin webers appear to be period correct numbers and were original to the car. The pistons and sleeves were swapped for a more favorable matched set, not new, as we preferred to reuse excellent condition period parts due to their superior makeup. The rods and caps are all original. The engine bay shows striking originality, and all moving, wearable parts have been replaced. Brevetti clamps, green fuel lines, original air canister decal, original VDO bag, and the original excellent wiring harness tell some of the story. The gearbox is all smooth. The suspension has all new bearings/bushings. The springs are yellow Centerline and shocks are red Koni’s, not hard like the yellow ones. The original Dunlop system is restored with NOS parts. The car rides on the original re-powder coated 15x5 Fergat rims, with new Pirelli 185-15’s with a matched spare. The spare still had the little Fergat globe sticker on it upon arrival.

A jumpy tachometer and a speedometer unable to surpass 40 mph were repaired by replacing both cables and adjusting the speedometer needle.

A metal canister-style brake fluid reservoir was replaced with a correct reproduction 105 plastic reservoir, and contains the rubber baffle from the original plastic reservoir.

A somewhat noisy rear end was replaced with a quiet one from another '67 Duetto with Dunlop brakes. The good replacement was cleaned, resealed and installed using all new seals and the original rear half shafts with new wheel bearings.

Poorly functioning rear brakes were completely disassembled, cylinders replaced and re-honed as needed, new seal kits and return springs installed and genuine NOS brake pads fitted.

A new emergency brake main brake cable was installed and custom side-cable extension linkages were fabricated to provide correct operation.

A low-pressure electric fuel pump was removed to further restore the car's originality. New inner and outer push rods for actuating the mechanical fuel pump were fabricated from matching high-speed steel hardened stock and were installed with a new mechanical fuel pump.

A new windshield was installed to replace the sand-blasted original.

A new fuel filler neck seal replaced the cracked original.

A new clutch cable replaced the abraded original.

New rear axle rebound straps were fitted using new stainless steel hardware and replacing the Phillips with hex socket cap screws.

A new trunk rubber seal of the correct profile from Classic Alfa was installed.
